Independent Review of Transpower Proposal Gives Further Doubt

An expert witness, called on as an impartial party by the Auckland City Council, has real concerns about the Transpower Henderson-Otahuhu transmission line plans. A peer review by Connell Wagner of Australia, has reinforced The Onehunga Enhancment Societies concerns that the resource consent does not address some important issues.

The report by Connell Wagner states, “The application has requested for uprating the lines rating to 986 MVA (under forced outage situations) but does not specify the frequency or duration of such events.” The review goes on to say that reading between the lines it appears that Transpower is looking to use this higher rating at all times, not just at forced outages, and requests that this be clarified.

Positive Hearing Result for TOES and Submitters

Hearing commissioners have declined major aspects of the Transit proposal.

Transit's proposal to build the Gloucester Park over-bridge has been declined by the hearing panel that heard evidence in May.

There is also a recommendation by the commissioners to gve greater consideration to pedestrian access from Onehunga to the foreshore. This request was captured in both the Auckland Volcanic Cones Society alternative design and Colin Tunnicliffe's "green bridge" submissions.

Full outcomes of the hearing have been published online by the Auckland Regional Council.

Submission Updates

What we’ve been up to.

Earlier this week TOES entered this submission to the Board of

New Zealand.
The Auckland Regional Council submission supports our argument regarding the transmission lines through Onehunga and we should support them.

Both files are available for download below.

You were asked in our last newsletter to make a submission against the Transpower proposal. As a society TOES made such a submission and a copy of what was sent can also be downloaded here (TOES Submission to ACC Transpower).
