Positive Hearing Result for TOES and Submitters

Hearing commissioners have declined major aspects of the Transit proposal.

Transit's proposal to build the Gloucester Park over-bridge has been declined by the hearing panel that heard evidence in May.

There is also a recommendation by the commissioners to gve greater consideration to pedestrian access from Onehunga to the foreshore. This request was captured in both the Auckland Volcanic Cones Society alternative design and Colin Tunnicliffe's "green bridge" submissions.

Full outcomes of the hearing have been published online by the Auckland Regional Council.

This is an outstanding victory for those who committed time and effort during the hearing, and for all those in support of The Onehunga Enhancement Society.

Transit's proposed upgrade of 5km of SH20 between Queenstown and Walmsley Rds aims to increase the capacity over the Manukau Harbour and improve connections to arterial routes.

Transit prepared this press release in response.

Next steps: Transit has 30 working days to decide whether it accepts or rejects recommendations on the designation from Auckland and Manukau city councils. Should Transit reject the recommendations, the councils and submitters have 15 working days to notify Transit of any appeals to the Environment Court.
