Campaign for Better Transport Public Meeting

Dear Members,

We thought you would be interested in getting behind this initiative. Campaign For Better Transport are pushing for the go ahead of a Mangere and Airport Rail Link. This is part of a better vision for Auckland and our neighbourhood.

Here are the details:

Mangere and Airport Rail Public Meeting 8th November

The Campaign for Better Transport believes a rail link to Mangere and on to the Airport is a key component for sustainable transport in Auckland.

The Good News:

- The foundations of the second Manukau Harbour Bridge will be built to support rail "in the future"
- Onehunga railway station is due to open in December 2009

The Bad News:

- Rail to Mangere and the airport does not feature on any current transport plans for the foreseeable future
- Transit's Second Manukau Harbour Crossing project replaces a possible rail corridor with motorway lanes
- Transit will not now be proceeding with a key interchange at Gloucester Park, meaning traffic congestion will continue to be a problem at Onehunga.

The Campaign for Better Transport is holding a public meeting to discuss this vital transport issue. This is a chance for local residents to find out about the issues involved, and the implications they will have on the community.

Hear from Cameron Pitches from the CBT and other guest speakers. We want to know what you think - should we be pushing for rail to Mangere and the Airport or not? If we don't plan to do it now, when will we?

Where: St James Church Hall, 29 Church Road, Mangere Bridge

When: Thursday 8th November. 7.15pm for a 7:30pm start.
