Beachcroft foot bridge closed this weekend

The following Community update has been received from the Manukau Harbour Crossing Alliance:

"We will close the Beachcroft Avenue foot bridge this weekend (17 and 18 October) to jack the bridge up.  The bridge will be open again by Monday morning.

Our attempt to jack up the bridge last weekend was aborted because of technical issues.  These have now been resolved and we will go ahead this weekend, regardless of the weather. 

As explained previously, the bridge is being jacked up by 500mm to provide safe clearance below after traffic is shifted to the newly constructed southbound lanes on 1 November. 

In the meantime, work has begun on the replacement bridge being built on the southern side of the existing bridge.  This will be a 3.5m-wide shared pedestrian and cycle bridge.  It will be completed in early 2010.
