Te Puia Marae- Meeting 7th Sept 6pm

The Restoration of the Mangere Bridge Waterfront Reserve.

Transit is preparing plans to restore the site of the new bridge construction and wants community input into what it leaves behind.

Share your ideas at a meeting at Te Puia Marae

on the corner of Mahunga Drive and Miro Rd

6 pm         Monday 7th September       All welcome

In 1980 Te Puia Marae had a beach at its door step with cockles and flounder caught right outside. With the construction of the present bridge in the 1980s the marae became surrounded by a motorway, a landfill reclamation and was forever cut off from the harbour by the newly built Mahanga Drive.

The new bridge has widened the motorway right up to the rear fence of Te Puia with increased road noise and vibration affecting the holding of hui and tangi.

We can't allow major construction in our community to impact in this negative way.

Let's make sure that our community is listened to by Transit. The restoration of the foreshore reserve must serve the different interests of the many groups that use and enjoy the harbour and surrounds.

Presenter:

Jim Jackson from The Onehunga Enhancement Society (TOES) will share ideas for an integrated plan to restore Mangere and Onehunga sides of the harbour.
