Outcomes of the Public Meeting

The TOES Public Meeting held on September 11th, at the Onehunga RSA unanimously agreed:

• That all actions already taken by TOES concerning Transit, Transpower, national Policy Statement on Electricity Transmission, etc be endorsed.
• That Auckland City Council be urged to recognise that because of the key strategic position that Onehunga holds on the Auckland isthmus, every issue that affects Onehunga also affects the whole city.
• That TOES be supported in their urging of Auckland City Council and the Auckland Regional Council to provide a team of expert planners who can co-ordinate such issues as:

• Siting of the new railway station and bus terminal
• Possible rail link to Avondale and the airport.
• The undergrounding of all utility services
• New residential zoning to cope with the rapidly enlarging population
• Preservation and enhancement of our reserves
• A co-ordinated approach with DOC, ARC, ARTA and Transit regarding the development in Onehunga Bay
• Onehunga residents’ wish to be re-united with the sea.
• The importance of the port to the community
• The strengthening of the local roading, cycling and walkway networks to cope with future demands.

• That the TOES working party that has been set up to work with Transit to achieve an outcome suitable for both parties be supported.
