Mangrove Management Submission Opportunity
We have an opportunity to make submissions on Mangrove Management to the Auckland Regional Council. This provides us with a further opportunity formally restate community goals for the area i.e. as the entry point to Auckland City, the Onehunga coastal edge needs to be transformed from a motorway corridor into a gateway landscape.
TOE's believes that the "Auckland Regional Plan: Coastal" should be changed to permit the restoration of the Onehunga foreshore west of SH20 and support the Community Plan to return Onehunga to a seaside town much as it was prior to SH20 covering the natural seashore.
TOES has made a submission ( which can be viewed here). We are also asking for all our members to make submissions as well. This can be easily achieved via the attached submission form, which has been prepared for you. Simply print, sign and send it to the Auckland Regional Council by their cut off date of 28 November 2007. Please also refer this email on to other's you consider might be interested in making submissions.
One of TOE's objectives is that GOVT, ARC, ACC, and MCC must use this one in fifty year opportunity (SH20) to repair the damage that has evolved over the last sixty years caused by MWD, Transpower, Watercare, and Natural Gas to the original shoreline and beaches on both sides of the harbour.
By making the attached submission we are effectively reinforcing to the politicians and bureaucrats that there is a community in Onehunga that is not going to be held to ransom. For that we need "numbers"- so we do encourage you to take a few minutes to submit.
In terms of wider communication we aim to provide members with a general update on key areas prior to Christmas and also plan to hold another public meeting February/March for a full update. Over the past few months there has been a lot of activity behind the scenes. The committee has been successfully lobbying local and national politicians. This work is ongoing. We are in regular discussion with Transit about their SH20 proposals. We are also trying to bring Transpower to the table to discuss the communities concerns about their plans for the area.
We thank members for their ongoing support and would encourage you to make a submission on the Mangrove Management as it will help achieve our collective wider goals.

Rail & Road
A rail system from the air port to the city is needed for future expansion of the airport the same as Brisbane Australia.
The offramp from the motorway leading into Onehunga urgently needs to be expanded to make another option of entry into Onehunga Mall to relieve conjestion in the Onehunga Mall entry.
